1985-1026 Seekers Radio Interview, New York City, USA Interviewer: Your Holiness, as a young girl, you had a vision of a new Heaven and a new Earth. According to your view with man’s cooperation, can they exist simultaneously? Shri Mataji: Yes, of course, of course. It’s a beautiful question. It’s only they who make the heaven or the hell. So if they decide to have the hell, they’ll have it. Interviewer: Your Holiness, I understand that your father was a member of the Indian congress and that as a young girl you lived at Mahatma Gandhi’s ashram. Shri Mataji: Mm, and not only that, but I took a very active part in the struggle of independence and my hero was your president, Abraham Lincoln. I always appreciated the way he fought for the right and I took a very, very special part in my young age when I was about eighteen or nineteen years of age, in 1942, and a [UNCLEAR malicious], they tried to trouble me quite a lot. They put me on the electric shock, they put me on the ice and put me in all kinds of troubles. All right, one has to forgive them. Public Program (Fragment) (England)

Yogi: When Kundalini becomes with the spirit. A person becomes aware of that spirit as silence and as becomes the witness, it’s like when you’re been on the outside of a roundabout, in a kiddies playground whirling round and you feel ill. And somehow, you go to the center of the roundabout and you sit of the axis of the roundabout and then you can watch the whole thing but you don’t feel sick any more, you see it, you enjoy it but you don’t feel giddy. [UNCLEAR] ..even if you are falling off…hurt.  So you become the witness and you become silent and at peace. But more than that, you get the coolness of the holy spirit or is the coolness of vibrations… and this coolness is the thing which is the treatment [UNCLEAR] … which enables the Kundalini to rise. To recognise that there is a holiness and… Shri Mataji: We can’t hear you. Yogi: A purity. And that holiness, instance and purity of the Divine vibrations is what makes this Kundalini to rise. It’s the conditions which enable the seed within us to sprout. One can then become aware of the mechanism inside, and can be aware of vibrations so instead of just judging things on thoughts, or on feelings, on likes or dislikes that we’ve got from previous experiences. One can go on vibrations and going by vibrations means that if something is incorrect it is so because it is harmful to us. And it’s harmful Read More …

Shri Mataji comments on “Jesus, The Son of Man” Brompton Square House, London (England)

Shri Mataji reads a part of the chapter 1 of “Jesus, The Son of Man” from Kahlil Gibran, 1985 “And were it not for sorrow in all of you I would not have stayed to weep.”“Who are you and what are you, Judas Iscariot? And why do you tempt me?”“Have you in truth weighed me in the scale and found me one to lead legions of pygmies? And to direct chariots of the shapeless against an enemy that encompass-that encamps only in your hatred and marches nowhere but in your fear?” Shri Mataji: “Marches nowhere but in your fear”, means you have enemies within yourself.“Too many are the worms that crawl about me feet, and I will give them no battle. They are worms! I am weary of the jest, and weary of pitying the creepers who deem me coward because I will not move among their guarded walls and towers. ““Pity it is that I must needs pity to the very end.”“Would that I could turn my steps towards a larger world where larger men dwell. But, how shall I?” Shri Mataji: And now he said about the future, he?“Your priest and your emperor would have my blood. They shall be satisfied ere” means before, “I go hence. I would not change the course of the law. And I would not govern folly”. Shri Mataji: Because, it’s because of the law that he was to be crucified.“Let ignorance reproduce itself until it is weary of its own offspring.”“Let the Read More …

You have to take to it little seriously, Workshop Brighton (England)

1984-07-24 You have to take to it little seriously, Brighton, England, DP-RAW I don’t know how she {unclear}, I said alright, we just pray and give her a bandhan. Now the prayers work. Because when they go home, they find the mother is in a different mood, father in a different mood in a very loving manner. You can change people and we are surprised (of) how they start liking you, they are quite amazed. You are so much {unclear: eased} You give-up your habits completely because your own master. Nobody, no habit can dominate you. Your habits just drop off. We had an experience here in Brighton, there was a gentleman who came and shouted at me because he was drunk. Next day he came and now, he is a beautiful person. We have so many experiences like that. When they were drunk or drugged or something they came and shouted at me and then they are alright. There are people who came from groups and things, and they were mocking at me making fun at me and today they are sitting here. Because this is the love, the power of love that acts, it acts. And that is what it is called now that the Kaliyuga the worst part of the modern times is over. Now the Krutayuga has started. Talk to Austrian Sahaja Yogis Bordi (India)

Talk to Austrian Sahaja Yogis, Bordi (India), 13 [or 14?] February 1984. Now Austria is very strategically placed in Sahaja Yoga, it’s a bridge. It’s a bridge between the left and the right. Austria is a bridge between the left and the right or we can say that now all the Western Europe is becoming “leftish” because of the influence of alcohol and frustration from aggression and they’ve done their level best, now they are fed up with themselves. It’s a sort of, they have given up. And on other side is the German side, you can say the Russian side, those who are still trying to progress and develop and conquer and fight. So Europe is divided unfortunately into two types of people now. The left-sided people are committing suicide and the right-sided people are still busy with aggressiveness and aggressive ideas. So between these two, the bridging thing is Austria, is a very important place. (To Gregoire: Now translate.) Sahaja Yogi: [Grégoire speaks in German] Who does not understand English? Shri Mataji: No, no, no. Better tell them [inaudible: as that-?]. Gregoire: They understand Shri Mataji Shri Mataji: They understand. All right.  So this is a very strategic place where the left and right are bridging you see, and the swing always moves from left to the right and right to the left. So there is a possibility that some of the Germans may try to take to the left-sided base. But when the right-sided person goes to Read More …

Success stories with Janet Turner Los Angeles (United States)

TV Interview “Success stories with Janet Turner”. Los Angeles (USA), 1983. Reporter: The Academy award-wining Movie about Gandhi, made many Americans aware of the great work this man accomplished in India. My next guest worked with Gandhi but she is here in America now to help us find what she calls “Self-realization” Stay tuned! I think you are going to find this very interesting. Her name is Shri Mataji.Reporter: Did I say it OK?Shri Mataji: It’s good. [laughter]Reporter: It’s actually longer than that! But we are not even going to try that. [laughter]I just got to ask, was Gandhi anything like the actor who portrayed him in the movie?Shri Mataji: Oh! Very much. Very well done. The only thing was the style of talking of Gandhi was rather more Indian. This fellow was over brilliant, I think.Reporter: Over brilliant?Shri Mataji: And he would answer everything in such an alert way, and Gandhi ji was a very slow speaker. That’s it.Reporter: It took little longer to come out.Shri Mataji: Yes. That’s it, you see.Reporter: But they portrayed him so perfect like a saint. Is that true?Shri Mataji: Yes, you see, they have done it very well. And the lady who has worked it out, I know her very well. She is a very intelligent lady who did all the dress up and all that. She is very intelligent woman. Reporter: They chose her well. Wasn’t there anything that ever got him angry or?Shri Mataji: No, he used to be very angry. Read More …

TV Interview Los Angeles (United States)

TV Interview, Los Angeles, USA, 1983 Interviewer: Joining me right now is Shri Mataji and She is known throughout the world as a saint. And that’s the first time that I have been able to meet a saint. And you’re also a faith healer or psychic healer, I guess some people call you. But when asked in a recent interview as to whether or not you were a saint or considered yourself to be a saint, you had a very unusual answer. Are you? Shri Mataji: Actually, you cannot certify yourself isn’t it as anything? The quality of a saint is that he can make other saints. If he can make others saints, then he’s a saint. Otherwise, it’s just self-certification. Interviewer: Can you make other people saints? Shri Mataji: I think so, yes. Interviewer: How would you define a centre? What would another person become that would make him a saint? Shri Mataji: The person who becomes a saint develops a new awareness as a result of a living process of evolution that he becomes the Spirit as described by Christ that: “You are to be born again”. And in that, the awareness becomes: it’s actualization. It’s not just mental projection but actualization, that you become a person who is Collectively Conscious. Interviewer: You mentioned Christ and yet you are from an Eastern country being from India. Do you believe in Jesus Christ? Shri Mataji: Of course, of course! Now let us say, how are we going to work it out. What should we do? First, my suggestions are these. Well, you may give your suggestions. I personally think this way, that we should have a formal body, formal, with the people who will be with the journalistic side. Call it by any name. You are calling them in America, by the name of “Golden-Age-International”. So you have a formal body. You must have for that a proper card -shield, and a kind of a appeal “a letter of introduction”. Public Program Mumbai (India)

सार्वजनिक भाषण मुंबई, ४ मई १९८३- Public Program Mumbai  I bow to all the seekers of the truth. Human is unaware that in all his quests he is only seeking God. Even if he is running after any material thing, he is seeking God only the path is incorrect. If he is working for fame and material wellbeing, he is still looking for God.  When he becomes some powerful person and moves around in the world, even then, he is looking for God but his route is wrong. When a man pursues material things like money, property, one finds he is not happy. Excess money leads to bad habits, children are spoilt, etc bad things follow. Then man thinks why have I earned this wealth? For whom these materials were collected? When he will leave this world, he will go empty-handed. However, when you achieve God and your attention stabilizes then these material things take beautiful form. With the divine light material, things disclose new dimensions.  He looks at things with great depth. Just as today, it is a beautiful environment with trees around. When you have not found PARAM(ultimate)Atma (nearest usage in English-God) your thoughts venture to wonder if I had a similar place, trees, I should possess similar terrace, ones you get these things then you think to achieve something else. Hence, we do not enjoy what we have. We think of buying a Car yet not happy then desire to buy a big house yet we desire Read More …

Third Letter in Marathi (Location Unknown)

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, Translation of Old Marathi Letter – (in Nirmala Yoga magazine no.15, 1983) Man wants peace, wealth, power, etc., but God is the origin of all these.  Then why should there not be the desire for God?  Why should there be no aspiration and ambition to meet God? We should pray to God for peace, and keep the desire to meet God who is peace itself. This should be the difference in satisfaction of a common man and that of a Sahaja Yogi. One should be ready to surrender the very desire to meet God at God’s holy feet.  All attention must be on Him.  For that – one must have dedication, determination and concentration (tapasvita), in that all material attachments should be destroyed. What is there in this world to cling to?  You must realize the glory of those feet in which all fades, and becomes peaceful.  Only then, will you have your glory! Why should one brag of one’s achievements?  You must understand that whatever is being done by you, is all God’s power, that is, the working of the Adi Shakti and you are only the witnesses to see these miracles. For achieving that stage, you should pray: “May our ‘I consciousness’ fade away.  May the truth that all of us are a small part of your being be assimilated within us, so that your Divine bliss would resonate every particle of our bodies and this life would be filled with beautiful melodies enchanting the Read More …

Letter in Hindi from Nirmala Yoga 1981 Jan-Feb (Location Unknown)

“The time of Mahayuga has come. Thanks to this thousands of people are getting their Self-realisation. At the beginning, only one or two flowers blossomed on this tree of life, but in this Mahayuga, spring has come. All this is a question of time.  This yuga was predicted by many great people. Recently, I saw the book “Milton” written by William Blake. He was a great philosopher and it’s so surprising how he predicted the foundations of Sahaja Yoga at Surrey Hills and the first Sahaja centre at Lambeth. He also wrote that with a special power, ordinary people will become prophets. And with this wonderful power they will liberate many others.  I enjoyed very much his poem that had such depth and such clear knowledge. If only the Sahaja Yogis of our country could become aware and alert towards this kind of knowledge, then they will aim at achieving the greatness and the depth of Sahaja Yoga.  Change can only come through the Kundalini that is germinated by Sahaja Yoga. That which is the power of life, only that can work out the living process. There is no other path than change.  This is the last step. It can be understood only through wisdom. This is the Last Judgement of God. But this is also the pure fountain of generous love flowing through the delicate heart of the Mother. You yourself have to assay (examine) yourself and purify yourself. Get your attention enlightened by this most beautiful Atma. Mother’s many loving blessings Read More …

Conversation of Shri Mataji with Ratna (see also MAHA AVATAR, ISSUE 2, OCT-DEC 1980, PAGES 21–22) New Delhi (India)

Conversation of Shri Mataji with Ratna OM SHRI MATAJIShri Nirmala Devi Namo NamahThe moving finger writes, and having writ it moves on, Nor all they piety nor wit can scratch a single word down.A young girl of sixteen fascinated by these lines so much that she lived on then for twenty-six years. If there was a “Moving Finger” who could control your lives, then what was the need for temples, churches and worship ? A question which haunted her for many many years to come. Then one day she heard a saying “Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached”. It appealed all right and so she got up at 4 a.m. (called herself a Karmyogi) and kept on working, but still the problem of life and its meaning were not being solved. Everything appeared existing but what was her role in life ? This was a question, probably an eternal one !May be we were not the lucky ones, like those born when Shri Ram and Sita, Radha and Krishna, Lord Jesus and Mother Mary came down on Earth to Bless them. Sometimes I thought that may be we could still get a Darshan of Mahavishnu or have a vision of Sakshat Shakti Herself. Reception of Sir C.P. New Delhi (India)

Talk by Sir C.P.: Mr. Subramanyam and dear Sahaja Yogis and Sahaja Yoginis of Delhi, May I say first of all, how very grateful I am to all of you for the honour, kindness and affection you have chosen to bestow upon me, this evening. For me it is an experience which is very wooling and I assure you, I will cherish it for a long time. Sahaj Yoga is now the very life of my wife, whom you call Mataji; who still remains my wife And as Sh. Subramanyamji said, she has played the role of a wife, a perfect wife, if I may say so, a perfect Mother and now a perfect Grandmother and what she is doing now for the Humanity is something which makes me particularly proud and most gratified. Perhaps, I may mention to you that years ago when our two daughters were still little children and they were growing up, we both agreed that our first responsibility as parents must be to bring them up properly, educate them and to see that they are properly married and settled in life and then she would be free to devote herself to the wider family of Humanity. She kept her word and I kept mine. My daughters grew up. Credit for bringing them up naturally goes to her, because I was really very busy with my official duties and she gave me tremendous support by looking after the children, and the house and taking over every Read More …

Advice for Effortless Meditation London (England)

Advice for Effortless Meditation. London (UK), 1 January 1980. In the same way the vibrations, the vibrations are coming, they are radiated. What you have to do is to expose yourself to it. The best is not to put in any effort. Don’t worry at what point you have a problem. Say, many people during meditation, I have seen if they catch somewhere they go on looking after it. You just don’t have to worry. You just let it go and it will work by itself. Is going easy? So you don’t have to put in any effort. This is what meditation is. Meditation means exposing yourself to God’s grace. Now the grace itself knows how to cure you. It knows how to mend you, how to settle down itself into your own being, keep your Spirit kindled. It knows everything. So you don’t have to worry as to what you have to do or what name you have to take, what mantras you have to do. In meditation you have to be absolutely effortless, expose yourself fully and you have to be absolutely thoughtless at that time. Supposing there’s a possibility, you may not be thoughtless. At that time you have to just watch your thoughts, but don’t get involved into them. You will find gradually as the sun rises, the darkness goes away and the sun’s rays go into every crevice and every part and makes the whole place lighted. In the same way your being will be Read More …

Atma and Paramatma New Delhi (India)

“Atma and Paramatma”, translation of Hindi Lecture. Delhi (India), 18 August 1979. The sudden arrival is for various reasons. In Sahaja Yoga sudden arrival has a special significance. We must have seen many incidents in our lives, which have suddenly happened. They do not mean anything to us. If we try on intellectual level, we cannot understand why a particular incident has taken place in our life. It has been the way of human being, that he wants to understand everything through reasoning. This is correct on his part because his awareness is not yet awakened. When his awareness is limited and when he is searching the proof of everything through his intellect it is difficult for him to adopt some other means which are outside the scope of reasoning. You have heard a lot about Paramatma, Atma, Adi-shakti etc. You have also read about them in books. Every now and then, man talks about Atma and Paramatma. There have been many incarnations, who have told that you should first realise your Atma because man cannot reach Paramatma, without knowing his Atma. As you cannot identify colours without eyes in the same way, you cannot attain Paramatma unless you meet your Atma. You cannot intellectually understand Paramatma. It is only through Atma that you can understand Paramatma. So far, all saints have said “be alert in the observance of your Dharma, search your Atma, understand the Atma that is residing in you.” What is Atma? What work is it doing residing within Read More …

Sahaja Yogi: [Inaudible]Shri Mataji: But this kind also, spiritually kind of things is there.Sahaja Yogi: I don’t know [inaudible] These people went to India, those Yugoslav, and teach Yoga because they have a guru there.Shri Mataji: Oh. You know my husband is a citizen of Yugoslavia.Sahaja Yogi: Yes, really?Shri Mataji: He got the citizenship of Potenza or something or some place, he got the citizenship. And they had ordered some ship from Yugoslavia, a huge big tanker [inaudible] oil.And I suggested to my husband, “Why not be decorated in Indian style? Because Indian boys will be on the ship and after all, we have a lot of handmade things and we can decorate it better”.And-be comfortable, sit a little bit so you can be comfortable also there, be comfortable- And then we decorated. I decorated the ship sitting down in India only. And they have turned out very good. Two ships were there; one was called as Jawaharlal Nehru and another was Lal Bahadur Shastri , these two ships. Sahaja Yogi: Your husband, Mother, and he went to Yugoslavia.Shri Mataji: My husband. The first three Chakras or How to approach Sahaja Yoga Caxton Hall, London (England)

The First Three Chakras Or How To Approach Sahaja Yoga Caxton Hall, London (England), 20-11-1978 …and that gives us our evolutionary ascent. This central force, as I have shown you here, is first in the residual form, kept in the triangular bone and is called as Kundalini. The word ‘Kundalini’, in the Sanskrit language, means – ‘Kundal’ means ‘the coil’; it means ‘coil’. Kundalini – when it is a feminine of Kundal – ‘Kundal’ means ‘a coil’ like the,  you see, you can say, ‘the curl’ or ‘a coil’. When the feminine gender is used, it is called as Kundalini. Now this is the residual force, which has made the zygote, as you call it, or you can say the embryo and the residual of it settles down there. It is much more than that, see – I’m not going into details about it how this force, which force it is – it is a subconscious state, you can say. That is all your subconscious – all your lives – even from amoeba to this stage. Whatever you have been doing, whatever have been your search,  whatever lives you have had, whatever genes you have passed through, like, we can say, if you were, say, a lion,  it is all recorded. Then also it records all that has been happening in this present life also. Through this, through this area, in the subconscious area, it passes and is recorded here and kept everything recorded: whatever you are taking and experiencing Read More …

Spirit, Attention, Mind Finchley Ashram, London (England)

“Spirit, Attention, Mind”, Finchley Ashram, London (UK), 20th February 1978. …and He’s using us as an instrument. Come along! As I have said.  Now Christine had asked me, “What is our surrendering?” And he has asked me if we have a free will or not. All right? You have a free will of your own. Especially human beings have it, not the animals. You have the free will to choose, we can say, good and bad, righteous and unrighteousness. Now, you can choose to surrender, or not to surrender, to His will: to be dominated by your own will. Now, she asked me, “What is the surrender?” Surrendering, as I have been saying, that is to be done in three stages. Especially here in this country where people think, rationalise, analyse; because it’s not easy. If you can do it otherwise, you can do it automatically. Supposing God, Himself, is sort of based according to your certain conceptions. I don’t know what sort of conceptions you have about God, but supposing you have certain conceptions, individual ones. Everyone has individual conceptions for God. And maybe that you see that He’s so Almighty and He’s so great and you just bow to Him without thinking. But that cannot be. So the first one is to surrender by understanding rationally. Nobody is unconscious, nobody is in the subconscious. You are all very conscious as to what you are doing and what’s happening to you. So when you see that the Divine Force Read More …

Nabhi Chakra London (England)

Nabhi Chakra, London1978-02-20 How it is placed within us. Nabhi chakra also has got two sides- left and right. On the left hand side of the Nabhi chakra is placed as a centre or you call it a chakra or a sub-chakra called as the Chandra means the moon. Moon centre on the left hand side, and right hand side is the sun centre and they are placed exactly on the moon line and the sun line i.e. first the Ida and the Pingala. These two centres are the two points up to which we can go and move from left to right. Beyond that when we start going you cross the limits. Now these two centres when localized, see they have vertical vibrations flow over to them but when they are localized at that point how we spoil them. We must understand. Left Nabhi and right Nabhi are interdependent on each other. If you pull too much of left Nabhi or work too much on left Nabhi then right Nabhi also can catch. But say we will take one by one. Now the left Nabhi is caught, normally if you eat food at somebody’s house who is a sort of spiritualist or who is giving a prasad like say Satya Sai baba this horrible fellow, his those vibhutis as they call it because it comes from the cremation ground, see that ash, all these things and all these types of food when you eat…. a person who believes in Read More …

Deeper Meditation London (England)

“Deeper Meditation”, London, 20 February 1978 Cooly (Tony Paniotou) have you written it down? Shri Mataji: Hello, How are you?  Yogi: Very well, thank you. Shri Mataji: May God bless! You can sit on the chair. Be comfortable.  Yogi: Oh, that’s very kind!  Shri Mataji: Ask Cooly to write it down for him. Yogi: He is doing it. Hello! How are you Douglas? How are you? Douglas Fry: Very well! Shri Mataji: Looking very fine! Just like a flower beautiful! See what beautiful children I have, just like these petals over here. Can you open a window for a while. Just open the window for five minutes. Sit comfortably. Be comfortable, like this. I mean. Yes, be very comfortable. One has to be very, very comfortable, very comfortable. She got it even before she had seen me! Because that shows that it’s flicking in the air. Today I want to tell you about further meditation: how we have to go and how we have to understand ourselves. You see the thing is, so far you have had habits of dealing with things, and your practices: how you have dealt with the worldly problems, with your personal problems, your physical problems, body problems, but now as you have entered into the Kingdom of God and the power of God is flowing through you, you must know that your solutions and your styles have to be different now; that is, you have to put your attention at the disposal of God. Nabhi Chakra Regent Park Street Ashram, London (England)

Nabhi Chakra. February 1977 The Nabhi chakra, is placed at the center of gravity of every human being. If it is not there, that means it is going to be a little problem for you to get it in its right place. There is a kind of a trouble which most of you suffer from, is maybe due to drugs or maybe nervous problems, due to war, or maybe some sort of a shock to your sustenance. For example, during war people lost their values. Because they lost faith in God. Chaste women who believed in chastity were brutally assaulted. Very religious people were persecuted, families were broken, many men were killed and children, women, and old people were scattered. A very horrible atmosphere of insecurity overpowered all these nations.  Then came the concentration camps you see, also. Which shattered human beings because human beings are very delicate instruments. They are the coveted creations; they are the highest and they were dominated by things like bombs which are matter. Thus, the Spirit in man died out. People lost faith in righteousness, in love. Then a new pattern of securities were built up. The industrial revolution followed it as a result and the artificial sense of joy, of security, of love was accepted by the society. This is what man did with his freedom because wars are created by man. This is not God’s doing. But along with it, very great seeking souls took their birth on this Earth. They started Read More …

Birthday Puja (year unknown) Mumbai (India)

HH Shri Mataji, Birthday Puja Public Program, Mumbai, India [Yoginis singing a welcome song ends 6’55”] I bow to all the seekers of truth. It is very kind of you all to have come to celebrate my birthday.  It’s all your goodness. In modern times, who looks after the mother? One of the signs of modern times is that the parents will be neglected by the children. They may have to stay in an orphanage. But I find all of you here with such love, with such affection, all the way from all distances, you have come to greet your Mother. Words stop at this point. I cannot understand the love that is pouring so much like an ocean over Me. I just get lost into the beautiful feeling of a Mother who has thousands of children, who are so kind and also after my image of a good son or a good daughter. We had another great mother here, in this Maharashtra, was Jijabai, Jija Mata. And she is the one she had  an image [unsure] of her son, that one day her son will be able to establish the kingdom of God, of honesty, of freedom, of character. Such ” Yuvapurushas” are born in many years.Even his son could not come up to his standard, to his character.  The way he respected the daughter-in-law of Kalyan Subhedar, the way  he came towards people, the way he led a life of dynamic bhakti. Such people are rarely born and he could Read More …
